Schedule

The St. Albert Chess Club is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, select Fridays, & Saturdays.

A St. Albert Chess Club membership provides you with free entry to all weeknights. Non-members may drop in on weeknights for $5 per night (cash or e-transfer). Weekend tournaments and events are separate.

We expect all of our attendees (both members and non-members) to contribute to a safe and respectful environment, and to be mindful of each other’s experience.

Weekly Chess Nights

6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Players will be paired for a single tournament-style game at a 30+30 time control (30 minutes per player for the game, plus 30 seconds per move). Sign-in cutoff is 6:40 p.m. for official games. If your game ends early, you are welcome to stick around and play casual games with anyone else who is around – just be mindful of those who are still playing their slow game.

Tuesdays - 30+30 Classical

6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Wednesday nights may include structured 10+5 rapid games, unstructured casual play, 3+2 blitz tournaments, and rapid ‘quads’ (four-player round robins). Most of these are ideal for newer and lower-level players.

Wednesdays - Rotating formats

6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

One to two Fridays per month, we hold members-only nights. Format may be casual play, or flexible to the requests of our members.

Fridays - Member Exclusives

2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Junior Sectionals – For players age 18 and under, 6-player round robins at a 10+5 time control. Medals will be awarded to top finishers in each section. Sections are determined by (approximate) skill, to best ensure enjoyable games. $20 for members, $30 for non-members.

Rapid Quads – For all ages, 4-player round robins at the specified time control. Sections are determined by (approximate) skill, to best ensure enjoyable games. $10 for members, $20 for non-members.

Blitz Swiss – 9 rounds of 3+2 blitz in a swiss-style tournament. $30 entry.

Free Play – Anyone is welcome to visit the club and play some chess for free.

Saturdays - Various Formats
